The MIP survey of the world IP market, now in its 13th year of publication, is based on "a qualitative ranking of leading firms based on extensive feedback from their peers" and not a ranking based on firm size or the number of cases filed. The rankings reflect the state of the market between September 2008 and January 2009.
MIP researchers contacted firms in 70 geographical jurisdictions to gather information as well as client feedback. Based on this research, firms are ranked in tiers in each jurisdiction with separate rankings for prosecution and contentious matters. The tiers represent the perception of the leading firms in each market.
